Treating premature aging and Actinic Keratosis
Years of sun exposure plays havoc with your skin. Besides
skin discoloration from red and brown spots, enlarged pores,
and collagen breakdown, you may develop more serious conditions
that can threaten your well being.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) has multiple applications. Besides
being effective for reversing the results of sun damage mentioned
above, it is an FDA approved treatment for pre-cancerous
Actinic Keratosis.
What
is Actinic Keratosis?
Actinic Keratosis (AK) is common pre-malignant skin condition
that can signal the early beginnings of skin cancer.
AK lesions are scaly rough spots that develop as a result
to prolonged exposure to the sun (ultraviolet radiation)
over the years.
As time passes, untreated AK can progress to squamous cell
carcinoma, the second most common and more serious skin cancer.
Benefits of PDT:
- Well
tolerated
- Scarring has never been reported
- FDA approved for treatment of pre-malignant Actinic Keratosis
- PDT
uses Levulan (ALA) a “smart solution” that
specifically targets and destroys damaged cells in the skin
which have the potential to develop into skin cancer
